About the Journal

Focus and Scope

B-Dent: Jurnal Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Baiturrahmah (p-ISSN: 2301-5454; e-ISSN: 2654-7643) is a peer-reviewed journal published biannually (June and December). The journal encompasses a comprehensive range of topics in dentistry, including but not limited to periodontics, conservative dentistry and endodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, dental radiology, oral medicine, oral pathology, forensic odontology, dental public health, management of dental diseases, and dental biomaterials science. In addition, the journal welcomes contributions on long-term clinical trials, epidemiology, oral health, dental education, technology transfer related to novel scientific instruments or procedures, as well as clinically relevant oral biology and translational research. Although submissions from other clinically relevant fields are also considered, priority is given to high-quality and original research.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There are no subscription fees or pay-per-view charges. Authors may be subject to article processing charges (APCs) as specified on the journal's website.

Peer Review Process

The journal employs a double-blind review process. All submitted manuscripts are initially assessed by the editor for suitability. Papers deemed appropriate are then typically sent to at least one expert reviewer for scientific quality evaluation. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles, and this decision is final.

Accreditation

JBD is accredited SINTA 4 based on Decree of the Director General of Research and Development Strengthening, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0826/E5.3/HM.01.00/2023, dated July 24, 2023.

Publication Ethics

JBD follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines for handling research and publication misconduct. The journal requires ethical approval for research involving human subjects (Declaration of Helsinki) and animal subjects (CIOMS guidelines). All authors must disclose conflicts of interest, avoid plagiarism, and adhere to ICMJE authorship criteria. Editors and reviewers are bound by confidentiality and objectivity.

Copyright Notice

Authors retain the copyright of their published work and grant the journal the right of first publication. The work is simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) that allows others to share and adapt the work with appropriate credit and the same license terms. Authors are also required to sign a copyright transfer agreement upon acceptance.

Sponsorship Disclosure

The journal is published by the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Baiturrahmah, Padang, West Sumatra. It does not receive any commercial sponsorship or advertising funding. All publication costs are borne by the university and/or authors as per the journal's fee policy.

History of the Journal

JBD was established in 2012 by the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Baiturrahmah, Padang, West Sumatra. The first volume was published in June 2014 as a printed edition. In 2018, the journal obtained its e-ISSN and was accredited SINTA 4 by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (Decree No. 79/E/KPT/2023, dated May 11, 2023).

The names and email addresses entered on the journal’s website (for submission, review, or correspondence) will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party. Personal data is processed in accordance with Indonesian data protection regulations.

Archiving (LOCKSS/CLOCKSS)

To ensure permanent and secure archiving, the journal participates in the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) systems. These decentralized preservation systems allow participating libraries to create permanent archives of the journal’s content. Copies of all published articles are stored in multiple institutional and global archive nodes. The journal’s content is also archived in the Indonesian National Library (Perpusnas) and GARUDA (Garba Rujukan Digital).

 

Reference Management and Plagiarism Check

  • Reference Manager: JBD requires authors to use Mendeley for citation formatting.

  • Plagiarism Check: All submitted manuscripts are screened for originality using iThenticate or Turnitin before review. A similarity score exceeding 20% (excluding references) may lead to rejection or return for revision.
