Penyakit karies gigi merupakan salah satu dari berbagai penyakit manusia yang paling umum terjadi. Penyakit ini disebabkan terbentuknya asam di permukaan gigi yang timbul sebagai reaksi dari sisa-sisa makanan yang melekat pada permukaan gigi dengan mikroorganisme yang terdapat pada mulut. Salah satu bakteri yang dianggap sangat berperan dalam mekanisme pembentukkan karies gigi dan peningkatan kolonisasi bakteri adalah bakteri Streptococcus mutans.BakteriS. mutans dianggap sebagai bakteri penyebab karies gigi karena kemampuannya membentuk biofilm pada permukaan gigi. Pencarian senyawa bioaktif dari bahan alam masih menjadi alternatif, salah satunya dari tumbuhan Myrmecodia pendans. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektifitas ekstrak etil asetat M. Pendans dalam menghambat pertumbuhan S. mutans.Uji aktivitas antibakteri dengan menggunakan metode Kirby Bauer dan agar difusi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil uji sensitivitasterpenoid pada konsentrasi 10000; 5000 dan 2000 ppm berturut-turut adalah 17,9; 16,8; 13,6 mm. Hasil uji KHM dan KBM berturut-turut 78.125 dan 625 ppm.References
