Abstrak

Dental and oral health can affect general health as well as an individual's quality of life. Dental and oral health is not only a component of the general health of adult individuals, but also plays an important role in the growth and development process of children. Dental caries is a dental health problem. According to the results of Basic Health Research (RISKESDAS) in 2018, the prevalence of caries in Indonesia is very high, namely 88.8%, meaning that only 12% of Indonesian people are free from caries. The prevalence of caries is quite high in Indonesia, one of which is due to the lack of public knowledge in maintaining oral hygiene, making it difficult to prevent caries. One prevention that can be done is by introducing people to how to maintain oral hygiene from an early age. One strategy is to increase promotive and preventive efforts by increasing the School Dental Health Business (UKGS) program. This research was conducted on class III students aged 9-10 years at SDN 44 Kalumbuk Padang on January 22 2024. Previously, the students were given a pre-test which aimed to find out the level of students' knowledge about dental and oral health. Dental examination is carried out by looking at the DMF-T index. The technique for taking research subjects was total sampling. The research subjects consisted of third grade students who were given informed consent to be approved by their parents/guardians. The research results can be concluded that the caries risk level in class III is high with a score of 4.6. Parental knowledge is very important in underlying the formation of behavior that supports or does not support children's dental and oral hygiene. This knowledge can be obtained naturally or in a planned manner, namely through the educational process. Parents with low knowledge about dental and oral health are a predisposing factor for behavior that does not support children's dental and oral health
